According to Marc Lancaster:

The Reds have purchased the contract of Quinton McCracken and designated Andy Abad for assignment.

According to Jerry, McCracken should be arriving at the ballpark at any time.

Also, Griffey is not in the starting lineup tonight. Still feeling a little stiffness. Freel will start in center, with Womack at second. Encarnacion is batting cleanup, FYI.

The more things change, the more they stay the same with Junior.

Also:

# Jacob Cruz, Frank Menechino and John Castellano have been released
# William Bergolla (high groin strain) and Ray Olmedo (strained right elbow) have been activated from Louisville’s DL
# Terrence Long has been transferred from Billings to Louisville
# Left-hander Mike Venafro has signed and will report to Louisville
# Right-hander Tom Shearn has been assigned to Billings

Cruz goes from being the team’s best pinch hitter last year to being released. This is a direct result of carrying 4 second baseman on the major league roster. They can’t afford to carry a PH specialist that isn’t good defensively.

That’s ridiculous. If it was an important game, I’m sure Jr. would be in there. The last couple of years, there;s been all kids of coverage of how intense his rehabs and pre-season prep have been. It’s just ignorant to say he doesn’t care. Yeah, that’s right Jim McCullough, I’m calling you ignorant. What are you going to do about it?

Wayne Krivsky said yesterday that Junior’s knee was “hyperextended.” For what it’s worth.

Jr. deserves the benefit of the doubt.

The bigger questions are 1) why Denorfia wasn’t called up, and 2) what in the world McCracken is doing up here. If there are good things about McCracken I’d love to hear them, but what I see is a declining 36 year-old who was never that good to begin with.
