The game was about as diametrically opposed to the game Saturday night as one could be. Saturday night the weather was horrible, very cold and windy, but the Dragons looked impressive. Last night…not so much in a 10-4 loss which is probably the worst I’ve seen the Dragons play in the years I’ve been attending games in Dayton.
The good: Good question. I’m hard pressed to find anything. Janish had two hits, but his coverage of 2B on two bad throws by Tatum was so bad, it keeps me from calling his a decent game. Carlos Fisher had three good innings…only problem was he also pitched the 4th, when he gave up 4 runs on 4 hits.
The bad: This is a longer list…
B.J. Szymanski continues to look absolutely horrible at the plate. Last night he struck out 4 times (walked once) and looked terrible doing it. 3 were swinging 3rd strikes, the last one was called.
I feel that I’ve personally put Jay Bruce’s career in the toilet. He hasn’t had a hit since I bragged about his hitting in my game report on Sunday. Last night he was 0-4 with a walk. He did get on base with a 2 base error in the 7th, on a ball that was hit fairly well to LF, but the outfielder misplayed and it was ruled an error. He stung a ball in the 9th, lining out to the right fielder.
All of the Dragons relievers last night were scored on. Newly activated Jeff Stevens had good spots, throwing 2 innings and striking out 3, but he also gave up 3 hits and a run. Bo Lanier got in the game and was ineffective, having a good first inning, but not able to get through his second, giving up 3 runs on 1 hit and 3 walks. Jon George allowed two of Lanier’s runners to score and another one of his own with another ineffective performance.
Basically, after being 0-0 after 3 innings, this game got ugly in a hurry for the Dragons fans.
