This isn’t good news:

Right-handers Justin Mallett and Ramon Ramirez have been suspended 50 games each after violating MLB’s minor league drug policy.

Ramirez tested positive for a “performance enhancing substance,” while Mallett tested positive for a “drug of abuse.”

Ramirez was with Sarasota in Class A, and Mallett was with Chattanooga last year, but wasn’t on their active roster before today, anyway. (You’d already know all this if you checked out The Big Board.)

As our own Chris noted over there, a 50-game suspension can kill a minor league career. Dumb, dumb, dumb.
