Press Release from the Dragons (4/12/06):
Dayton, OH – The Dayton Dragons pitching staff has undergone an early season shakeup as two new arms; RHP Bo Lanier and RHP Jeff Stevens will join the club in Dayton and will be active for the Dragons final game of a three game series vs. the Lansing Lugnuts Wednesday night at Fifth Third Field. To make room for the pair of right handers, who began the season at extended spring training in Sarasota, Florida, the Reds released RHP German Melendez and sent RHP Andy Weimer to extended spring training. The roster move keeps the Dragons at the maximum of 25 players.
Lanier is a 10th round pick from ’05, who pitched most of the season in the GCL, but spent some time early and late with Billings. He also threw a few innings at Sarasota when they needed an arm.
Stevens is a 7th round pick from ’05, he pitched at Billings last year. Had 8 starts in 13 appearances with a 2.98 ERA and a WHIP of 1.09.
So, both of my buds from last year’s trek to the GCL are now on the Dragon’s roster (Haltiwanger being the other).
Melendez was a former catcher who was trying to make the switch to pitcher and Weimer pitched last year in an independent league.
Hey Roger Sellers was an awesome pitcher for you why did you let him go?
