In yesterday’s Grapefruit League action, the Reds defeated the Evil Empire 5-4 on a 9th inning run. The Reds had an early 3-1 lead before letting the Yankees tie it at 4-4 in the top of the 8th. Rich Aurilia, Tuffy Rhodes, and Austin Kearns each had an rbi in the game.

Phil Dumatrait got the start for the Reds and went 3 innings, allowing 4 hits, 1 run, 1 walk, with 1 strikeout. Kent Mercker, David Weathers, and Chris Hammond were each able to throw scoreless innings (we’ll give Weathers credit since his run was an unearned one. Weathers needs any encouragement at this point.)

Ryan Wagner picked up his 2nd win of the spring by pitching a scoreless top half of the 9th inning.

In the WBC, to follow up on Chris’s post on Jr., Griffey ended the game 4-4 with 2 homeruns, 2 singles, and 7 runs batted in. He’s now hitting 6-8 for the WBC with 2 bases on balls.

Wily Mo Pena went 2-4 for the Dominican including a run scored and an rbi. He’s 3-5 thus far in the WBC.
