On Monday, the Reds defeated the Philadelphia Phillies 5-2 in Grapefruit League action. The Reds (3-3) took advantage of a 2 run 2nd inning to take an early lead, a lead they’d never relinquish.

Brandon Claussen worked in a very effective first outting by throwing 3 scoreless innings. Brandon surrendered 2 hits and 1 walk while striking out 2. Claussen also went 1-1 at the plate with 2 runs batted in.Matt Belisle and David Weathers both struggled in their innings of work. Both surrendered runs and a couple of hits. Weathers’ ERA is now at 18.00 at this early part of the spring while Belisle worked his first inning of the spring.

Offensively, 3B Earl Snyder gave the Reds a 5-2 lead with his first homerun of the spring in the 8th inning. Adam Dunn played 1b in the game and continued his offensive struggles. Dunn is batting just .182. But it’s still early.

Don’t worry about Dunn, he’ll be fine.
But continue to worry about that bullpen. I wonder how many guys will use a walker to make it to the mound or us this year. David Weathers as closer? Give me a break…he’s an opener not a closer…he opens up a glimmer of hope for the opposition every time he comes in the game!!!
