The Reds split their squad today for two Spring Training games. One team is playing Detroit again while the other team took on the Minnesota Twinkies.
In the first final of today’s split squad games, the Reds defeated Minnesota 9-1. Edwin Encarnacion homered twice in the game. Edwin finished the game 3-4 with 3 runs and 3 runs batted in. Karl “Tuffy” Rhodes was 2 for 3 with a run scored. Homer Bailey pitched well in 2 innings of work, surrendering 1 hit and two walks while striking out 2. Mike Gosling got the win in the start, pitching 3 innings, allowing 3 hits and 0 runs while striking out 1.
In the other game, the Reds lost by a touchdown 17-10 to Detroit. Adam Dunn homered in the game, his first of the spring. Dewayne Wise went 3-3 with a run scored as well. Aaron Holbert added a homerun to the score as well.
The pitching side of things was rather ugly to say the least. David Weathers gave up 6 runs (3 earned) on 5 hits in one inning pitched. Travis Chick pitched the 9th and gave up 4 runs on 4 hits. Phelps, White, Hudson, and Germano all also pitched and faired similar to the rest combining to throw 6 innings, allowing 11 hits, 7 runs, 4 walks, and struck out only 2. It can only get better from here.
