The Reds opened Spring Training with an 8-5 loss to the Detroit Tigers. 17 Reds saw at least one plate appearance while 6 Reds took to the mound to get their initial work in for the spring.
Scott Hatteberg went 1-3 including a solo homerun in the 4th. Tony Womack, LF Andy Abad, and Quentin McCracken each had 2 hits apiece.
Ryan Wagner suffered the loss for the Reds by pitching 1 inning, surrendering 3 earned runs on 2 hits and 2 bases on balls. The other Reds pitchers seemed to struggle somewhat allowing 19 baserunners in the 9 innings.
Thanks for the report, Chris. I’m glad that the games have started again!
I know feelings were mixed on this earlier, but I still like the Scott Hatteberg signing. I don’t expect him to turn into the All-Star people pegged him as being a few years back, but when he pinch hits or spells Dunn now and again, it won’t feel like wasted ABs as it will with Womack or McCracken.
