Can someone explain how Bruce Sutter got elected to the Hall of Fame? He was a nice pitcher, but…Hall of Famer?

I’m really interested to hear the arguments in favor of Sutter. I just can’t see that he’s deserving.

He helped define the position of closer. For ten years he was one of those guys who made opposing teams believe that they had to be winning by the 7th inning or they had no shot. He also perfected the modern splitter (and the guy who invented the curveball is in the hall of fame despite not having double digit wins).

If I were Goose Gossage, I’d be scratching my head.
