Scores from yesterday. August 9

AAA

Indianapolis 4, Louisville 2

34 year old OF Pedro Swan went 1-3 with a double and an rbi. He leads the team with 13 homers and 64 runs batted in. On the year, he’s hitting .274/.341/.465.

On a younger note, former 12th round pick out of Atlanta, Ben Kozlowski pitched 7 innings, allowing 4 runs (3 earned) with 2 walks and 2 strikeouts for a solid pitching effort. In 18.1 innings pitched, he posts a 3.44 ERA with 9Ks and 6BBs.

AA

Chattanooga 2, Jacksonville 3

No surprise that a 9th inning run was given up to the Suns to give Jacksonville the 3-2 victory. 26 year old 1b/LF Steve Smitherman went 3-4 with a triple and run scored. On the year, Steve is hitting .256/.358/.436.

On the pitching side, 24 year old Philip Dumatrait went 4 innings in the start. He gave up 5 hits and 1 earned run in the no decision. His short outting could possibly be contributed to the 4 bases on balls he allowed. On the year, Dumatrait is a whopping 3-11 despite having a solid 3.59 era. He has however allowed 164 base runners in 105.1 innings pitched along with throwing 12 wild pitches.

High A

Dunedin 5, Sarasota 0

Let’s chalk the poor outing by Sarasota to fatigue as they were coming off 26 innings of play the night before. C Jeff Urgelles , the Reds 26th round draft pick in 2003, recorded 2 of the Reds 3 hits in the loss.

James Paduch got the start for the Reds and only allowed 2 earned runs over 7 innings. He gave up 5 total runs, but Sarasota committed 2 errors which obviously cost Paduch.

Low A

Dayton 10, Kane County 11

After falling behind 8-0, Dayton actually came back and regained the lead. Up 10-9 heading into the 9th (go figure) James Morrison gave up 2 runs to record his first blown save and 5th loss.

34th round pick Evan Conley went 2-4 with 3 runs, 4rbis with a double and homerun.

Trevor Lawhorn went 2-4 with 2 runs and 3rbis. His 2 run homer in the 8th gave Dayton a 10-8 lead before the Morrison fiasco.

Gulf Coast League

GCL Pirates 9, GCL Reds 0

It was a bad day for the Reds farm teams that are named the Reds. Both Sarasota and the GCL Reds only managed 3 hits apiece and both were blanked by their opponents. It was difficult to find any positive from the game except Reds 36th round draft pick from last year, T.J. Johnson pitched a scoreless 9th inning. In 5 games this year, Johnson has 6.1 IP and an era of 0.00. He has 6 Ks and 5 base runners allowed.
